What is Tai Chi Chuan?

Tai Chi Chuan can be literally translated as, “Grand Ultimate Boxing.”  Tai Chi is typified by slow movements that help circulate energy around the body and accentuates the mind-body connection.  This is one reason why many health practitioners feel Tai Chi promotes wellness and longevity.  Tai Chi originated around the 14th century in China.  Although the details of the origins of the art are not clear, most agree that it was developed by a Shaolin monk who wanted to have a martial art based on softness and yielding, rather than on hardness and force that characterized the other martial arts of the time.

Have you thought about the environment paramount to your health and your heart lately… Are you gently and mindfully approaching your commitment to 2015! What has been your experience?

A while back, a discerning article about yoga was published in the New York Times. It was an article titled “How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body”. The article concentrated on how yoga injures the body. It focused on the misnomer that only true yogis who sit in contortion and breathe deeply all day are supposed to do yoga. I read this with a very deep gnawing feeling inside of me! Yoga, it seemed, was currently suffering from a mass media attack of hot, hard, and young perfectly pliable bodies. Intimidating to say the least!!  Continue reading
